Ani Art Academy Open House 2014

I attended the second open house for Ani Art Academy, Anguilla  on January 4th 2014. A greater number of pieces were on display this year. The progress that the artists have made over the last year was truly dramatic and outstanding.

I was happy to see many of the artists from last year but there were also some new faces. The art director Timothy W. Jahn is still there. I would like to give a big shout out to him for the terrific guidance he is giving all the students.

The show was very well attended. Hundreds of persons passed through the doors throughout the event. I am pleased with the support that the resident population is giving to the Ani Art Academy its students. I am also happy for the artists. Many of them have sold at least one piece of work over the last year. I look forward to seeing their work displayed internationally, regionally and at the art galleries in Anguilla including Savannah Art Gallery.

There were numerous persons vying fo the attention of the apprentices/ artists. I spoke briefly to Romaro Richardson and I would like to wish him luck in his art career. He is incredibly talented and we look forward to seeing him continue to grow as an artist.

Even though there was a large crowd, Nash was able to get some great shots of some of the art and artists/apprentices. Check out the work of Emily Garlick and Elizardo Mojica who were both featured in our first post on the Open House in 2013. We wish to congratulate all the artists/apprentices including Canita Runa, Shanicia Richardson, Akeem Laing, Shackile Brooks, Lynne Garlick, Courtney Mills, Dexter Welcome, Emily Garlick and Elizardo Mojica. Job well done.

The Open House was also one of the first social events of the year. I  was glad to run into Ira and Bonnie Bloom and we chatted for a bit.  I first met this couple in 2006 when I worked briefly at a law firm. They were working on getting Ani Villas started. As you know the villas of Ani Villas are now completed and beautiful. It was also nice to see Janine of Sunset Homes. I wrote about the launch of their new magazine here.

Do enjoy the pictures of the art below. You will be astounded by the talent.
