A Weekend Getaway at Shoal Bay Villas, Anguilla

“I was able to say good night to the sun, run away from the waves, see the coconut trees dance, and fall asleep to the sea singing all in just one day while staying at Shoal Bay Villas. What an awesome place!!”

Do you remember my blog post about the Teacher’s Award Ceremony and Dinner? Well that night, my mom won Teacher of the Year for Morris Vanterpool Primary School. She was given a one night stay at a hotel and some other cool prizes. My wonderful mother gave the stay to Nash and I and thanks to the owner Kathy Haskins; we were given an additional night resulting in a wonderful weekend stay at Shoal Bay Villas, Anguilla. Shoal Bay Villas is is a member of the charming escapes collection of properties in Anguilla. It is a small and affordable property and as you probably guessed it is ideally located on beautiful Shoal Bay beach.

We checked in around 7pm on Friday night and we were warmly greeted by the hotel cats and the night guard who showed us to our room which was a beachfront aparment.  Our apartment was beautiful with a full kitchen, dining and living room. We stepped out on to the porch but it was dark but we knew the following morning the view would be spectacular. We had a restful night with the sound of the waves in the background.

The following morning, we went out on the porch and took in the sights and sounds of Shoal Bay Beach. The sea was a multitude of shades of blue, the sky was clear and cloudless and the beach was deserted. I breathed in slowly and exhaled and allowed myself to be transported to a world where my only concern was enjoying the view. I was on staycation, which is a stay at home (Anguilla) vacation or getaway. All was well. Work and other commitments faded into the background.

Nash and I decided to go out, get some lunch and spend part of the day exploring. We grabbed meals from Coconose, had lunch under a tree and then we were off! Our first stop was Kobbe Designs but they were closed so off we went to check out Savannah Art Gallery. I pass it regularly but couldn’t remember the last time I was inside. I thought the Gallery and its owner, Frank Costin were super interesting and I will write a short blog post about the experience.

Our next stop was the Old Court House, where we snapped a few pictures and then we stopped by the Ebenezer Church, which is my church, to capture the beautiful blue doors. The Old Court House and the Ebenezer Methodist Church are both a part of Anguilla’s rich heritage.

We drove around a bit more and then stopped by our house to feed our dog Vision before returning to Shoal Bay Villas. My mom and sister came by to visit for a little while as it was my mom’s birthday. Sherise and I headed out to the beach for a walk to capture and enjoy the sunset and then took some pictures around the villa before they left. The day wasn’t over yet though, as we still had to get ready to take my mom out to dinner at AXA Seafood House for her birthday.

Normally, I would have written an entire post on this but considering the fact that the food looked so good and we were famished, I totally forgot to take pictures of the food. I will get pictures on my next visit. We had a great time though and we absolutely loved the seafood symphony which we had for our appetizer and the seafood paella and grilled seafood platters which we had for our entrees. Needless to say we were too stuffed for dessert. The staff however did sing Happy Birthday for my mom and they brought us this plate of dessert but we were too full to do much other than nibble at these goodies.

Will I go back to Axa Seafood House? Without a doubt, I will be back. The next time, there will be photos!

On Sunday Nash and I woke early and had breakfast on the porch before heading to church. We captured this beautiful rainbow which appeared after an early morning rain shower.

After church, we came back to the villa to relax. Shoal Bay Villas has a small lovely gym and my intentions to run the beach and go to the gym went straight out the window. I was in do nothing at all vacation mode on Sunday afternoon and simply relaxed on the porch. We checked out in the evening after a really great and relaxing stay. I would like to thank Kathy Haskins and the rest of the staff for helping to ensure our stay was so enjoyable.

If you are looking to get away for a quick weekend trip or if you have friends or family visiting the island, tell them about Shoal Bay Villas, Anguilla. We recommend it!
