If there is a fair, I will be there!
I attend fairs and festivals for one reason – the food. On Saturday, I got dressed and headed to the South Hill Fair. My goal was to get some of my favourite treats for lunch and dinner. I browsed first and checked out the menus at the various stalls. I spotted stewed shellfish and immediately purchased that from Carla.
I then headed to the rock oven to get some Johnny cakes straight from the the rock oven with butter of course. I was totally famished so I sat down and ate my shellfish and some Johnny cakes before continuing to browse.
I spotted roast corn and waited patiently in line for corn for my mom as she loves roast corn.
Next on my list were fish and conkie dumplings. I came upon these lovely ladies who provided me with this delicious dish. KennyAnne said to her mom ‘mom she writes on the internet so treat her good.’ Her mom was already providing me with excellent customer service anyway. Thanks ladies. It was yummy.
I found my way back to Carla and purchased some local sour sop drinks to round out my meals. I smiled. It was another successful food haul.
In addition to food, there was a DJ and live entertainment in the evening. There was also a bouncing castle for the kids, face painting by Canita Ruan and much more. I encountered a number of friends and acquaintances whom I chatted with throughout the afternoon.
It was a good day and a good way to wrap up the final fair of the year. The South Hill community did a great job once again of organising the South Hill Fair.
The next major festival in Anguilla will be Festival Del Mar which will be held over the Easter weekend in March. Festival Del Mar is the biggest food festival on the island. If you love seafood you do not want to miss it.
