Launch of Sunset Homes magazine
Take a drive through Anguilla, especially off the beaten path, and you are sure to find villas and homes which are architectural masterpieces. On Saturday, December 21st 2013, Nashaine, Sherise and I joined other invitees for the launch of Sunset Homes’ magazine to celebrate a man and team who are responsible for some of the beautiful architecture and design and construction management in Anguilla and the region. The event was held around the pool at Papillon villa in Little Harbour.
It was a lovely evening with clear skies, a gentle breeze and lots of familiar faces. The couple of the evening, Ian ‘Sugar George Edwards’ and Janine Edwards, both looked dashing and the little helpers serving food and drinks were simply adorable.
Ian ‘Sugar George’ Edwards is no stranger to most persons in Anguilla and the region. In 2012, he was honoured with five prestigious International Awards for Architecture and Property Development. As the Architectural Designer and Developer of ‘The Beach House’ on Meads Bay, described as ‘a stunning contemporary masterpiece,’ Sugar George captured awards for “Best Single Property Unit-Anguilla; Best Architecture Single Unit-Anguilla; Best Property Single Unit-Caribbean; Best Architecture Single Unit-Caribbean; Best International Architecture-Single Residence for 2012-2013 (the most coveted prize, the sole ‘World’s Best of the Best’ award for this category). You can find many interesting articles about Ian ‘Sugar George’ Edwards online or read more about his accomplishments in print and pictures in Sunset Homes’ new magazine or on their website. The new 2014/2015 Sunset Homes Magazine is also now available. View it here.
The Beach House, you may recall was mentioned in one of my first blogs in the days leading up to my wedding. A friend of mines who was visiting from Saudi Arabia fell in love with this villa on the beach. Unfortunately, we didn’t get to view it at that time but Sherise and I will be visiting and viewing The Beach House soon!
The new Sunset Homes magazines were creatively veiled, then revealed and displayed in the form of a Christmas tree in keeping with a Christmas season theme. Janine indicated that this was the idea of Gilda who as I mentioned in my blog on the Tourism Gala is the Executive Director of the Anguilla Hotel and Tourism Association.
Janine also acknowledged a number of other people who were instrumental in putting the magazine together. Orrett Wynter, owner and editor of Design Anguilla Magazine and Trudy Nixon of True Anguilla magazine were utilized for design consultation. Design Anguilla is a wonderful magazine so be sure to subscribe online. You can find me in the latest issue as I share my first scuba diving experience. Trudy and Orrett also did a fabulous job with True Anguilla magazine and it is a must have for loads of helpful information on Anguilla. The launch of True Anguilla magazine was also great and as luck would have it, was held at Spyglass Villa which is designed and owned by Ian and Janine Edwards and is also showcased in the new Sunset Homes magazines.
The graphic design and layout of the Sunset Homes magazine was done by Verna Jerome and Hari Cuffy and the beautiful photography of the villas was captured by Dr. Renante Guinto, Errol Pemberton and Orrett H. Wynter. The editorial committee was comprised of Janine Edwards and Anne Cassell.
Jaine Rogers provided the entertainment for the evening and she sang beautiful Christmas songs, jazz pieces as well as some Caribbean favourites like those from Bob Marley.
It was nice catching up with some persons at the party such as Claire Devener for Anguilla Life magazine, Timothy Jahn the Instructor at Ani Art Academy (check out Ani Art Academy open house on January 4th 2014) and meeting others such as Ryan Bowey, Head Golf Professional at Cuisinart Resort and Spa. Ryan said that if I am good at cricket or softball, I would probably be good at golf. Unfortunately, I do very poorly when playing sports which involve bats but nevertheless I will be sure to try golfing soon.
We had a great time at the launch of the Sunset Homes magazine and of course we took some time to speak to and congratulate Ian ‘Sugar George’ Edwards because without his brilliance and dedication to his craft there would be no magazine.
I cannot end this blog without mentioning the event planner and food – Erlene White who works with Sunset Homes but also managers Ciao at the airport did a fabulous job of ensuring the event was a success. Be sure to try her food at Ciao.
It was a truly wonderful night and I wish Sunset Homes all the best in their future endeavours. Be sure to request a copy of the magazine or you can also view the magazine on their website.

Another great read Shell, I have been following Janine since she worked for Bob Green, and had the pleasure of meeting her and her children last year at the Beach Villa, it was great to finally meet her and visit. I work in the design industry and I am a big fan of Sugar George and his work – first class. Thanks for posting/
Thanks Ellen. They are a wonderful couple as you know and I agree his work is amazing. I didn’t know you worked in the design industry – exciting stuff.
