Time for a Weekend Getaway
I had an appointment in St. Martin (SXM), the same week of Nash’s Birthday so spur of the moment we decided to make it a family trip and a weekend getaway.
It was our first time travelling with Xavi and I knew it would give us a small look into what any upcoming vacations and any weekend getaway with a baby would be like.
We packed everything important for baby but we were not overly concerned because if we forgot anything, we would be able to find it in St. Martin/St. Maarten.
Saturday morning we boarded the boat with Xavi’s car seat and arrived in St. Martin 20 minutes later. We were greeted with the news that there were no rental cars available. I was not surprised as the day before I had recognised that it was Carnival on the island.
One of the guys at the pier drove us to a rental place on the other side of the island where we were able to secure a car. I made it to my appointment and all went well. Xavi was the perfect baby. I smiled as I remembered those first weeks when the thought of traveling with a baby even for a weekend getaway would have sent chills down my spine.
Lunch in St. Maarten at Pineapple Pete Restaurant in SXM – weekend getaway
Xavi fell asleep on the way to the restaurant where we were having lunch and Nash and I smiled at each other. Winning, we silently thought.
We had a gift certificate for $100 for Pinaeapple Pete Restaurant from the silent auction at ACOCI’s Starry Night Dinner and Dance. Neither of us had been to the restaurant before. When we saw the menu we realised we could eat like crazy so we did. I had the New Zealand mussels, followed by the Grilled Mahi Mahi and Nash had the Tuna. We ordered wings, philly cheese steak wrap and a blackened mahi mahi burger to go. This was perfect. Since we had Xavi we decided to stay in for dinner.
The experience at the restaurant was fun. Our waiter was a trainee and he made us laugh. I am not sure if he was nervous or just laid back. His manager was right there to fill in the gaps when he forgot the specials or to remind him to pour our water or to check in on us.
Cheers to the team at Pineapple Pete for making our first dining experience there memorable.
After lunch, we headed into town. Nash and Xavi who had fallen asleep again chilled in the The Old Town while I picked up a few items. When Xavi woke up we walked about briefly together. Xavi and I were tired and ready to go to the hotel so we did. We stayed at Simpson Bay Resort which has great rates for persons from the region. Nash went back into town and Xavi and I chilled out together at the hotel until he returned.
The hotel provided us with a crib and a high chair which was awesome. Xavi liked his new accommodation and decided to stay up late and enjoy it with us.
Breakfast in SXM – Weekend Getaway
The next morning we had breakfast at one of the hotel’s restaurants. They didn’t have salt fish and Nash doesn’t eat meat so I enjoyed a big breakfast for both of us. We popped into the supermarket next door to get some breakfast items for Nash.
After checking out of the hotel, we drove around for a bit before heading back to Anguilla. It was a great mini getaway and baby was simply perfect (ha ha).
We are looking forward to travelling the world with our little boy.

That sounds like a nice weekend getaway. And you travelled with a baby! You are a super mom. My friend has a baby and she said that she’s not travelling with her until she’s at least three.
Hi Danielle. Ha ha ha to your friend. We love to travel so our baby will be travelling with us. Since we wrote this blog, we have been on a Caribbean cruise and also spent a week in Florida. Xavi was awesome on the flights, on boats, hotels, restaurants, buses etc. Your friend should reconsider lol. Thanks for reading and commenting. Have a great day.
